Go Skate Day 2007

On June 21, I had the opportunity to visit Blitz Distribution, an outdoor demo hosted by Element, and the Volcom skate park in Costa Mesa.  Hundreds of kids and adults, hopped on their boards and represented on Go Skate Day 2007!

I can not believe all the people that showed up to these events and especially, the pros that attended the Element event.  The event I was most impressed with was the Volcom skate park, not necessarily because of the activities coordinated (although you guys did a great job and the burgers were fantastic!!), but the talent of the kids skating at this location.  There was this tiny girl, probably no older than 8 or 9 (if that), dropping in the bowl, hanging with the big boys.  It was amazing!  The best part was when she had to get out of the bowl. The little girl threw her board up to this lady, which I am presuming is her mom, and she held on to one end and this lady pulled her from the other end. It was so cute!

The tricks kids are doing and the height kids are reaching is insane.  I feel like the kids are getting younger and younger (I'm just getting older), pulling off tricky flips and definitely skating with more confidence. How do these kids learn to do these sick tricks at such a young age?

Protective gear.....helmets, elbow pads and knee pads.  I noticed when the 5-0 pulled up to the skate park the kids scattered to their bags to put on their knee pads, elbow pads and helmets.  Everyone was having a good time on GSD and it was cool to see the cops not hassle the skaters about the protective gear. Enforcing the rules about wearing protective gear should be handled in a non-confrontational way.  The less scenes like this "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH6AYVn2yw4", the better.
