Surfers and booties—you either love them or hate them. Me,
I’ll do anything to keep myself as warm as I can during winter surf sessions,
so I love booties. They don’t bother me at all, and I think the soles provide
extra grippiness which helps me out (and I need all the help I can get). My
husband, he hates them. He would rather walk over the rocks at Trestles with
frozen feet and take the chance of stepping on a sea urchin than wear them. And
then comes the whole argument of the split-toe—another love it or hate it facet
of the whole bootie wearing experience; which brings me to my comment of the
day.
Have you noticed that shoes are starting to come with a
split-toe? I first saw them on my ever-so-fashionable friend from San Francisco. She wore a
pair of Nike’s with the split-toe, and swore that they were the most
comfortable shoes she owned. They were stylish, and great for navigating SF’s
hills. I thought, “Hmmm, I could see that” and proceeded to think the trend
would die in the near future. Seems as if my prediction was wrong. A Japanese
store, Waraku, opened up fairly recently in San Clemente, and stopping in, I noticed they
carried a whole line of split-toe shoes. They’re cool, but I don’t think I
could have my husband wear them. But, the topper came today as I was cruising the internet. These, made by Vibram,
are not split toed, but five toed, if that makes any sense. They come in a
flat, Mary Jane, or boot style— the boot style looks as if someone just wore
their booties straight from their surf.
Remember way back to about the year 2000 and models were
carrying surfboards in Chanel’s fashion show? Everyone couldn’t believe it?
Well, I think we’re way past that now. . . Check them out and let me know what
you think.
I am sorry but thise things are ugly. Should I go put my rash guard on for a night of clubbing?
