Desk Jockeys

You wanted to work in the action sports industry because it was your hobby, your passion, your lifetime dream, right? So now that you’ve fulfilled that dream, do you ever feel since you’ve become an employee of the action sports world that you never get to participate in it? When I was working full time in the Industry, I realized one day that I could count on one hand the number of times that I had surfed that month. Not that being a stay at home mom lets me go out anymore, but it was terrible. My co-workers and I would lament the fact that we were pushing a sport that we hardly got to participate in anymore.

So, when I read in Malakye’s weekly newsletter about the Office Booys contest, I thought it was fantastic. The brainchild of, as it is said in the press release, “a small group of out of shape Vancouver based desk Jockey’s,” it is a snowboard contest for those who work in the Industry. What I love about it is that it’s a chance for every day Joe’s (although ex-professional athletes who now work in the industry are welcome to sign up) to come out and compete in a sport that they love. The only requirement to participate is that you have to work full-time in the action sports industry. What a perfect way to take a break from working your passion to actually participating in it.

The event is February 22 at Bear Mountain, CA, so check it out now.
