Last Reminder

Yesterday afternoon I was reminded again, why I live in South San Clemente. My son and I walked along the trail at Cristianitos, admiring the view of the San Mateo campground, Camp Pendleton farms and the hills beyond. We continued on to old PCH, and ended up exploring the tide pools at Upper Trestles. As we were walking home, I reflected on how lucky I was to be able to walk out my door, explore nature and see such beautiful views. As we got to the top of the trail, back up Cristianitos, we passed a Save Trestles sign and it hit me—these walks and this view could be no more. The thought is sickening—to look out at what was once campgrounds and farmlands to see a six lane freeway, or to think that there may not be any tide pools to explore due to runoff, I can’t believe that this could be a reality.

You may have seen these renderings of what the view will be like of the TCA gets their way but I wanted to show them again. Nothing speaks louder than these. My point? If you can, please attend tomorrow’s Coastal Commission meeting at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We can’t let our natural resources turn into concrete.
