Surfing America--What's Next?

Usa_surf_team This past Wednesday, Surfing America held a meeting at the Surfing Heritage Museum in San Clemente to, “clear the air regarding Surfing America’s renewed resolve to qualify the US for the Pan American Games (and ultimately, the Olympics); a resolve which has resulted in an amicable, yet confusing, split with the NSSA” as Nathan Meyer’s writes in a story for Surfing Magazine. He says that members from every major surf media, as well as contest organizers where there to discuss what the split means for the athletes as well as what the future holds for Surfing America. From what I hear, everyone is stoked with the outcome. Mike Gerard, Surfing America executive director said in an email today that, “The meeting went extremely well… better than we ever expected!  The industry and surf media are solidly behind the Surfing America program and its status as the official National Governing Body for surfing in the United States.”

Good to hear, we wouldn’t want any internal conflict to affect the kids, and it sounds like everyone's doing their best to ensure that doesn't happen.
