The fight continues. . .
As you know by now, the first battle for the proposed 241 toll road has been won, but the war is not over. We need to continue to fight the TCA’s appeal process, as well as saving our state parks. To continue to fight the fight and pass on knowledge to others, two things have come to my attention the last few days:
1) Check out the video which was created and produced by Marty Benson, a surf photographer and a great advocate of the Save Trestles campaign. He explains the toll road situation really well, so if you’re hearing about this for the first time, you’ll be moved to help save the Trestles break. Please pass it on to others!
2) As I posted last week in the Industry News section, Governor Schwarzenegger fired both Bobby Shriver (his brother-in-law) and Clint Eastwood from the State Park Commission. Was it because they didn’t support him in his toll road decision? Schwarzenegger says no, he just needs new blood in his offices, though the timing sure seems coincidental. This past Friday, the Los Angeles Times did an article on the news story, and Surfrider members are asking that you send a letter to the editor in response to it. As the email states:
Governor Schwarzenegger claims he is a "green" governor, but with actions like this it is hard to tell. When asked about the toll road in a recent event in Anaheim he stated, "I know the environmentalists are sensitive about it, and they say it is going through a park, but the road has to go through somewhere. We can't stop progress."
Please send in a letter to the L.A. Times in opposition of the Governor's "my way or the highway" attitude. Send your letters to letters@latimes.com. State Park Commissioners should not be afraid to stand up for our state parks.
Let’s all do are part and keep working to save both Trestles and California State Parks!
